• Providing stimulation and exercise for the animals:
  • Walking the dogs in the fields or woods
  • Cuddling the cats
• ‘Lock up’ shifts cats or dogs – providing the final feeds, cleans, walks and cuddles of the day for the animals (7pm until 9pm) (If the volunteer rota is currently full, you will be notified upon receipt of your application form and placed on our waiting list)
• Assisting our staff in the kennels and the cattery
• Providing short- and long-term foster care
• Carrying out home checks

This role is to assist our kennel or cattery staff with the morning cleaning, feeding, walking and socialisation for a whole day 8.30am – 4pm. Ideally this will be for one set day per week for a minimum of six months due to the level of training required.

Although we do everything we can to make things as stress free as possible for the cats and dogs in our care, some of them do find it more difficult to cope in the kennel and cattery environment. We also endeavour to place puppies and kittens and elderly animals in caring foster homes, to ensure that they receive the specialist attention and love they so desperately need. Our animal foster carers provide a loving and calm environment for these cats and dogs as we try to find them their forever homes.

We are always keen to recruit dedicated volunteers willing to assist at our fundraising events. This is a fun and varied role where volunteers can help at one or two events per year or get fully involved with the planning and preparation for our full calendar of events. We hold regular fundraising volunteer meetings where you will be welcomed by our current friendly team.

Our phone lines and reception area can be very busy. We are looking for confident volunteers to assist our rehoming and reception team. This is an exciting and varied role which would suit someone with previous office experience, however full training will be given. The ability to use a computer and simple database will be essential. We are looking for people one day per week for six months will be required.

We are looking for hard working enthusiastic volunteers who would like to join our friendly retail team at our Nailsea charity shop.

As part of the team, the role will include a variety of tasks from sorting donations, pricing items and operating the till.

No retail experience is necessary however volunteers must have excellent customer service skills, be willing to talk about the charity and the work we do and must be confident, once trained, to use a till and handle change. 

This a great opportunity to gain references and retail experience. Hours are flexible, days range from 9:00am – 4:00pm Mon-Sat and we ask that volunteers can commit to a minimum of 4 hours on one set day per week, up to full time)

Collection tins located in suitable business premises can help raise vital funds and the profile of the sanctuary. As a collection tin coordinator you would help identify and place collection tins in suitable locations, liaising with the business owner or representative about the work of the sanctuary. Collecting and logging full tins and returning them to the sanctuary for banking. Writing thank you letters to participating businesses.

We are looking for motivated and trustworthy Volunteer Collections Coordinators to book in charity tin collections at their local supermarkets and organise volunteers to represent Holly Hedge with a smile.
